Rich Text / HTML Editor Update

This month at Agility CMS, we focused on an update to the Rich Text / HTML Editor that is used throughout the Agility Content Manager. The update was made to increase the usability and improve the experience when using the Rich Text Editor, with a focus on the following:

Ease of Use:  Only high-use buttons/features will be immediately visible, with less used features being categorized under dropdown menus.

Responsiveness:  By limiting the number of buttons / features that are immediately visible, the editor behaves nicer on smaller screens, where the buttons may wrap.

Simplification: We also removed a couple of custom legacy button / features which have been used very little over the last 6 months.

We utilized a wonderful product-analysis tool from Pendo.io, in order to observe customer behaviour and help guide our decision making when making these changes.

If you have a look at the screenshots below, you will see a heat map (and legend) which displays all of the button options which were previously enabled on our Rich Text Editor:

As you can see, there is a wide range of usage amongst the editor buttons, with some buttons getting a lot of activity (yellow, orange, red) and others which are rarely touched (blue). Based on this, we were able to make informed decisions which we believe will benefit all Agility CMS users moving forward.

As always, we're happy to hear any feedback our customers may have in regards to these changes.
